About Norma Jo Vaillette

Joanne Vaillette completed a Bachelor of Music-Music Therapy degree in 1983 earned from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. She had been volunteering with a Music Therapist in a local nursing home and did practicum with Children in a specialized education setting, and developmentally disabled adults. A six month Music Therapy internship was successfully completed at Allentown State Hospital in Allentown, Pa.

Training in the Bonny Method of Guided Imagery and Music with Ruth B. Skaggs, a number of job experiences including full-time mommy-hood preceded graduate school.

Norma earned a Masters of Arts in Counselor Education from the University of Central Florida-Orlando in 2001. A six month internship was completed on the Adolescent Psychiatric Unit of Lakeland Regional Medical Center in Lakeland, FL, working with Donald Willetts LMHC and Mark Helm MD. The Florida Mental Health Intern years post-graduate were spent substitute teaching at Pace Center for girls, working in therapeutic foster care, doing music therapy with the Achievement Academy (special needs children) and working with medium security juvenile offenders, as therapist and clinical director. Norma joined Linda Compton PA in private practice where Linda expanded Norma’s work with families to working with couples. Norma is working with Kevin Hull Phd at Hull & Associates in Lakeland.

Norma is an EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) practitioner working on certification. Norma has had substance abuse treatment as part of her training since coming to Florida in 1986. The “old school” training included attending rehabilitation and doing all the assignments with sincerity as a prerequisite to hiring. Norma has continued substance abuse training in graduate school and workshops, working with adults and adolescents.

Norma has had 116 hours of hypnosis training working with Stephen Gilligan, Michael Yapko, Jon Connelly and workshops through the Milton Erickson Foundation.

Other training and job experiences include work in grief, in-patient psychiatric treatment for adults, children and adolescents, physical rehabilitation, self-mutilation, panic, trauma and PTSD, depression, marriage and family, and brief stints as a music educator. Norma had her own rehabilitation needs for playing the violin due to moving to Florida with tendonitis. She received training from Kato Havas and added EFT work to this, both dynamics providing great relief.
